    Sleeping in

At my funeral they’re going to play a recording of me saying, “Thank you so much for coming. Unlike the rest of you, I don’t have to get up in the morning.”
Robert Buckman (1948-2011), Toronto oncologist, author and television personality. Not Dead Yet (1999), Buckman’s “unauthorized autobiography.” Many of Buckman’s 14 books dealt with doctor-patient relationships, leavened with humour. With British humourist John Cleese of Monty Python’s fame, Buckman was co-producer of more than 45 humour-driven medical information videos. His own serious illnesses enhance his empathy with patients. In 1979 he nearly died from a congenital muscle disease and10 years later suffered spinal cord inflammation. He died in his sleep October 9, 2011 on a flight from London to Toronto. Source: Obituary, Toronto Star, October 11, 2011.
