    The $8 billion car

Television and film actor Don Johnson — who starred in the 1970s TV series “Miami Vice” — had just crossed the border from Switzerland into Germany in his black Mercedes, headed for the Maybach car factory of Daimler Chrysler near Stuttgart, when he was stopped by German customs officials. The Germans, looking for “black money,” had been conducting spot checks of people leaving the nearby tax havens of Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg. In the trunk of Johnson’s car, they found securities and credit notes said to be worth $8 billion. Asked why he was travelling with so much money, Johnson is reported to have replied, “I am going to buy a car.”
