    The great secret of morality

“The great secret of morals is love or going out of our own nature in an identification of ourselves with the beautiful which exists in thought, action, or person not our own,” U.S. psychology professor Dacher Keltner tells Hope magazine in an interview, January/February 2003. “A man to be greatly good must imagine intensively, and comprehensively put himself in the place of another.”

“Since Charles Darwin, the classic list of human emotions has been anger, sadness, disgust, fear, surprise, happiness, and contentment,” Keltner adds. “I started to research emotions like hope, awe, love, compassion, and gratitude.”
